Edit
**Short answer: there is a time dimension, but it covers only five months (January–May 2022). The data shows a mild decline in deal count and no reliable trend in dollar value. Seasonality can't be judged from five months.**
The time axis is the announcement month, which is the table each row sits in. The `Founded` column is the company's founding year, so it isn't a funding trend axis.
**Deal volume: gently shrinking, with a May drop that is probably incomplete data**
- Announced rounds went 115 (Jan), 96 (Feb), 98 (Mar), 95 (Apr) and 42 (May), per the monthly summary (step-0).
- January to April is a step down and then roughly flat, at about 95–98 a month.
- May's 42 rows are probably not a real collapse. The dataset notes say May has misaligned or blank rows, and only about 20 of its 42 rounds have a usable amount (step-0 says 21, step-4 says 20).
**Disclosed funding value: noisy, not a trend**
- Parsed totals were about $4.10B (Jan), $3.49B (Feb), $2.85B (Mar), $45.3B (Apr) and $0.31B (May).
- January to March drifts down. April's $45.3B is about 10× any other month and should not be read as growth.
- The raw April `Amount` values (step-1) are messy:
- Formats are mixed, such as `$11.700,000` and `$624.800,000` with European-style separators.
- Some values look like bare millions, such as `$221.5`, `$23` and `$485`.
- There are several multi-billion-dollar rounds (one of $5B, one of $2.5B, one of $1.7B and three of $1.2B).
Either a few mega-deals or parsing of these odd formats is driving that spike, so the April total is unreliable. I didn't isolate which.
- The median round size rose from $5.45M (Jan) to $6M (Feb), $11M (Mar) and $30M (Apr), then fell back to $5.5M in May. That suggests larger rounds in March–April, but the April median also depends on how the odd formats were parsed.
- The share of rounds with a disclosed amount is a data-quality issue. "Undisclosed" counts were 6 (Jan), 7 (Feb), 12 (Mar) and 10 (Apr) (step-4). Rounds with amounts were 108, 86, 79, 80 and 20 (Jan–May) in that query. The two summary queries differ slightly for Feb–May, so treat those counts as approximate.
**Seasonality:** five consecutive months from a single year can't separate seasonality from noise. Any pattern, such as the March–April rise in median round size, is just as likely a one-off.
**Conclusion:** deal count is flat to slightly shrinking from January to April, May is incomplete, and dollar value has no trustworthy trend until `Amount` is cleaned.
