Edit
**Daily social media usage is the hub of this dataset, and the strongest single relationship is with mental health.** The correlation results show Daily_Usage_Hours moving in step with every wellbeing and academic measure. Weekend_Extra_Hours is the exception and is essentially unrelated to anything.
**Strongest pairs (Pearson r, from the correlation query, by absolute size):**
- **Daily_Usage_Hours and Mental_Health_Index: r = -0.85.** This is the strongest pair. Heavier use goes with a lower mental-health index.
- **Sleep_Duration_Hours and Mental_Health_Index: r = +0.77.** More sleep goes with better mental health.
- **Perceived_Stress_Score and Mental_Health_Index: r = -0.77.** Higher stress goes with a lower mental-health index.
- **Daily_Usage_Hours and Perceived_Stress_Score: r = +0.75.** Heavier use goes with higher stress.
- **Sleep_Duration_Hours and Sleep_Quality_Score: r = +0.75.** Longer sleep goes with better sleep quality.
- **Daily_Usage_Hours and Sleep_Duration_Hours: r = -0.72.** Heavier use goes with less sleep.
- **Daily_Usage_Hours and Academic_Performance_GPA: r = -0.71.** Heavier use goes with a lower GPA.
- **Daily_Usage_Hours and Sleep_Quality_Score: r = -0.68.** Heavier use goes with worse sleep quality.
**Moderately strong pairs (|r| about 0.5 to 0.66):**
- Sleep_Duration_Hours and Perceived_Stress_Score: -0.66
- Sleep_Quality_Score and Mental_Health_Index: +0.66
- Mental_Health_Index and Academic_Performance_GPA: +0.66
- Perceived_Stress_Score and Academic_Performance_GPA: -0.65
- Sleep_Duration_Hours and Academic_Performance_GPA: +0.60
- Sleep_Quality_Score and Perceived_Stress_Score: -0.58
- Sleep_Quality_Score and Academic_Performance_GPA: +0.53
**Weekend_Extra_Hours is unrelated to the other measures.** Its correlations with every other numeric measure are near zero, with |r| at or below 0.017. Its correlation with Daily_Usage_Hours is -0.01. Weekend extra hours therefore add no predictive signal here, unlike weekday usage.
**What this means:**
- The measures form two opposing clusters. Usage and stress sit on one side. Sleep duration, sleep quality, mental health and GPA sit on the other, and every link between the two sides is negative.
- Because this is observational data, these are associations, not proof of cause. Heavy use may drive poor sleep and stress, or stressed students may use social media more.
- Correlations this high and this consistent suggest the data may be generated or heavily smoothed. I did not test for that.
- I only measured numeric-to-numeric correlation. The categorical columns (platform, gender, academic level, device, Overall_Impact, late-night use) were not tested, though the gold tables break the measures down by them.
