Edit
**The most surprising finding is that this isn't really a clean list of one funding round per company. The same companies recur across months with amounts that don't reconcile, and the April figures are often larger and oddly formatted.** - **Repeated companies.** 14 company names appear more than once across the five monthly tables (step 1). The dataset card says each table is one row per company, but the same company recurs across tables, and in a few cases twice within one month. - **Pine Labs is the clearest case.** It shows up in all four of January to April, with $20M, $150M, $50M and then $1.2B (steps 4–7). That is a 60× jump from January to April, with no stage recorded until April, where it reads "undisclosed". It is hard to read these as four real, separate rounds. - **April amounts look off compared with earlier months.** Several companies' April values are far above their earlier ones: - DealShare: $45M in February, then "$624.800,000" in April. - Xpressbees: $300M, then $577.6M. - Licious: $150M, then $488.7M. - Classplus: $70M, then "$129.500,000". - Chargebee: $250M, then "$468.200,000". - Livspace: $180M, then "$431.6", which has no magnitude at all. In several of these the stage is unchanged (DealShare Series E, Xpressbees Series F, Classplus Series D, Livspace Series F), which suggests a repeat or restated entry rather than a new round. I can't tell from the data whether April holds cumulative totals, a different currency or unit, or mis-keyed numbers. The malformed values like "$624.800,000" (dot and comma mixed) point to a data-entry or format problem. - **Exact duplicates within a month.** NowPurchase appears twice in January with an identical $2.4M Seed. Securden appears twice in April with the same $11.7M, written once as "$11.700,000" and once as "$11,700,000". - **The Amount column is unreliable.** It is stored as text. Of 30 distinct values in step 0, the most common are "Undisclosed" (35 rows) and blank (25 rows), ahead of any dollar figure. Those two are the largest categories of Amount in the dataset. - **May is mostly empty or misaligned.** 19 May rows have no company, amount or stage. The one populated blank-company row has Amount "6400000" and Stage "$Series A", so the columns look shifted. **Implication:** any total or average funding figure computed straight from these tables would be badly distorted, mainly by duplicated companies and the inflated or malformed April amounts. Amounts need cleaning and de-duplication before they can support a funding trend.
