# Most surprising finding: the largest "deal" is a $3.9B Series B for a bike-taxi startup ## What the data shows - The biggest recorded amount is **$3.9 billion**, for **Rapido Bike Taxi** (Series B, 27/08/2019). - That is larger than Flipkart's $2.5B private equity round (11/08/2017) and Paytm's $1.4B round (18/05/2017). - That one record is **10.2%** of all valued funding dollars: $3.9B of a $38.06B total across 2,065 valued deals. - It is also well above the typical deal. The median deal is **$1.7M** and the mean is about **$18.4M**. A Series B for a ride-hailing startup out-raising Flipkart looks implausible. It could be a unit or data-entry error, but I could not verify that from the dataset alone. The `pct_of_total` field was empty in my results, so I relied on the aggregates above. ## Related pattern: funding dollars are very concentrated - The mean ($18.4M) is about 11 times the median ($1.7M). - **73 deals of $100M or more** (about 3.5% of valued deals) account for **63.6%** of all dollars. - If the Rapido figure is wrong, a rough calculation from these numbers puts the total near $34.2B and the $100M+ share near 59–60%. I did not run that scenario directly, so treat it as an estimate. ## Caveats and open questions - **Missing amounts:** 978–979 of 3,044 rows (about 32%) have no usable amount. All totals and shares cover only the valued deals, and the missing rows could change the picture. - **Count discrepancies:** Different queries gave 2,065 or 2,066 valued rows, and 73 or 74 deals of $100M or more. This is probably one non-finite or unparseable row. It does not change the conclusions. - **Misleading "max" row:** One query reported "Drums Food" as the max. That is a sorting artifact of a null amount, not a real deal. - **Not verified:** I could not check whether the Rapido value is real, or whether other large values are errors.
