## Missing values by column
**No column has true SQL NULLs.** A NULL-based check (step 0) returned no rows, and a NULL percentage check (step 2) showed 0.0% everywhere. The gaps are stored as placeholder text instead. The clearest case is Stage, where 43 January rows hold the literal string `[]` (step 3). Counting those blanks and placeholders as missing gives the per-month picture in the rendered tables (steps 4 and 5).
### Across all five months (446 rows)
I summed the per-month missing counts from step 5 and divided by 446 rows. These totals are my own arithmetic on those counts, not a separate query.
| Column | Missing rows | Approx. % of 446 |
|---|---|---|
| Stage | 127 | 28.5% |
| Investor | 45 | 10.1% |
| Founders | 38 | 8.5% |
| Amount | 25 | 5.6% |
| Location | 20 | 4.5% |
| Company Name | 19 | 4.3% |
| Sector | 19 | 4.3% |
| Founded | 18 | 4.0% |
| What it does | 18 | 4.0% |
### Where the gaps are
- **Stage** is the most incomplete column. It is missing in 37.4% of January rows, 30.2% of February and 31.6% of March. April is nearly complete at 3.2%, and May is 50.0% missing.
- **Investor** is missing in a small share of rows in January through April (3.1–10.5%), and in 50.0% of May rows.
- **Founders** is missing in 1.0% of February rows and 10.5% of April rows. It is complete in January and March, but 64.3% missing in May.
- **Amount** is missing in 2.1% of February rows and 2.1% of April rows. It is complete in January and March, but 50.0% missing in May.
- **Location** has a single gap, in April (1.1%), apart from May.
- **Company Name, Founded, Sector and What it does** are complete in January through April.
### May is the outlier
The May table (42 rows) accounts for nearly all the missing values in the core descriptive columns:
- Company Name, Location and Sector are each 45.2% missing.
- Founded and What it does are each 42.9% missing.
- Founders is 64.3% missing, and Investor, Amount and Stage are each 50.0% missing.
The dataset card says some May rows are "misaligned or blank", which fits this pattern. May's figures reflect broken or empty rows, not genuinely unknown values.
Excluding May, the only columns with meaningful gaps are Stage (about 3–38% per month), Investor (3–10%) and Founders (up to about 10% in April).
