Edit
**Time axis.** The dataset has no row-level date. Time comes only from the five monthly tables (Jan–May 2022). `Founded` is a company founding year, not a funding date. The notable breaks are an April spike in dollar value and a May dip in volume, both partly shaped by data quality. **1. April: a value spike, not a volume spike.** - April has 95 rows, in line with February (96) and March (98). - Its disclosed dollar total is about **$45.1B**, against about $4.1B in January, $3.5B in February, $2.7B in March and $0.3B in May. - The average round jumps to about $564M, versus $35–41M in Jan–Mar. - The median also rises to $30M, versus $5.5M, $6M and $12M in Jan–Mar. So the shift is not only outliers. - The largest April entries are Accel at $18.3B, Ola at $5.0B, Mahindra Logistics at $2.5B, Verse Innovation at $1.7B and ShareChat at $1.4B. - The top row looks suspect. "Accel" is a well-known investor, not a startup, and its stage is "undisclosed". It is likely an entry or alignment error, and it alone is about 40% of April's total. - Even without it, April is still roughly $26.8B, several times any other month. - The April amount frequencies also show three $1.2B rounds. **2. May: a sharp volume dip, with structural breaks.** - May has only 42 rows, down from 95–115 in earlier months. - Only 20 of its 42 rows have a parseable dollar amount, for a total of about $0.3B and a maximum of $67.6M. - The card notes that some May rows are misaligned or blank. This shows in the data: 21 rows have an empty amount, and one amount appears as a bare "6400000" with no `$`. - May's drop is therefore partly incomplete data (the month may be partial), not necessarily a real funding collapse. **3. A steady decline in deal count and rising non-dollar amounts.** - Rows go 115 → 96 → 98 → 95 → 42. - Rows with non-dollar amounts (e.g. "Undisclosed", blanks, misaligned text) go from 7 of 115 in January to 10 of 96, 19 of 98, 15 of 95 and 22 of 42 in May. - Disclosure quality worsens over time, so later totals are increasingly understated. **4. Other quirks.** - January's amount range includes a non-amount value, "Vaibhav Anant", which points to a misaligned row. - It also has an Indian-format value, "$1,40,000", which would break naive parsing. - January's largest round is $700M, and its top 15 amounts are dominated by small $1M–$10M rounds. **Takeaway.** Treat April's total as an anomaly to verify, especially the Accel row, and May as incomplete. January–March are the only months that compare cleanly, and in them total funding drifts down from $4.1B to $2.7B.
