# Most important numeric metric: partial answer
I could not finish this. I only obtained column profiles, never a row-level query, so **I cannot name the players, matches or dates behind the highest and lowest records.** What follows is what the profiles support.
## What the data supports
This is a tennis match-level dataset (`raw_kaggle`, 21 columns, player-vs-opponent rows from 1-Apr-2013 to 9-Sep-2024). The numeric measures and their min–max values are:
| Metric | Meaning (inferred from the name) | Min | Max | Nulls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rk | Player's ranking | 1.0 | 2225.0 | 4,388 |
| vRk | Opponent's ranking | 1.0 | 2252.0 | 10,390 |
| TP | Total points | 1.0 | 499.0 | 86,793 |
| Aces | Aces | 0.0 | 67.0 | 86,793 |
| DFs | Double faults | 0.0 | 26.0 | 86,793 |
| SP | Service points | 0.0 | 253.0 | 86,793 |
| 1SP | First-serve points | 0.0 | 165.0 | 86,793 |
| 2SP | Second-serve points | 0.0 | 112.0 | 86,793 |
| vA | Opponent's aces | 0.0 | 61.0 | 86,793 |
## Choosing a metric
"Most important" is a judgment call, and nothing in the profiles settles it. There is no win/loss or prize-money column among the numerics. My pick is **Aces**, the headline serve-performance statistic, which this dataset's name (serve, return and raw data) emphasises.
- **Aces:** lowest recorded value is **0**, highest is **67**.
- **Rk (ranking)** is the main alternative. It is the best-populated measure, with only 4,388 nulls against 86,793 for the match statistics. Its extremes are **1** (best) and **2225** (worst). A lower value is better, so "highest" and "lowest" are easy to misread.
## Caveats
- The extremes above come from column profiles, not from inspected rows. I can't say which player or match produced Aces = 67 or Aces = 0.
- The Aces, TP, DFs, SP, 1SP, 2SP and vA columns are all null in the same 86,793 rows. These statistics are therefore missing for a large share of matches, and any ranking of "top records" covers only rows that have them.
- A minimum of 0 aces may include matches that were cut short or incomplete. I did not check this.
- TP ranges up to 499, which looks unusually high for a single match. I did not verify it and can't say whether it is a real marathon match or a data quirk.
## Next step
Sort by `Aces` descending and ascending, excluding nulls, and return `Name`, `Date`, `Tournament`, `against` and `Score`. That would give the actual highest and lowest records.
