# Most important metric: closing price (`close`), highest and lowest records ## Caveats - The query that returned data (step 1) appears to rank by `close`. The top five are in descending order of close, and the bottom five are in ascending order. The SQL text was truncated in the error messages, so I am inferring this from the output. - Picking `close` as the "most important" metric is my judgement. It is the standard summary price for each trading day. `volume`, `open`, `high` and `low` are the other numeric columns. - Several earlier attempts were rejected by the SQL validator, so I did not run any further checks. ## Highest closing prices All five are SK Hynix (000660.KS), in July 2025: | Date | Open | High | Low | Close | Volume | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | **2025-07-14** | 292,500 | 302,500 | 292,500 | **300,000** | 2,936,976 | | 2025-07-15 | 296,000 | 298,500 | 290,000 | 298,500 | 4,196,196 | | 2025-07-10 | 284,000 | 297,000 | 283,500 | 297,000 | 4,556,065 | | 2025-07-16 | 298,500 | 299,500 | 292,500 | 296,000 | 3,123,297 | | 2025-07-11 | 299,500 | 306,500 | 292,000 | 294,500 | 3,732,533 | The **highest record is SK Hynix on 2025-07-14, with a close of 300,000**. The highest intraday price in this set was 306,500 on 2025-07-11, but that was not a record close. ## Lowest closing prices All five are BrainChip (BRN.AX), in December 2014: | Date | Open | High | Low | Close | Volume | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | 2014-12-05 | 0.011118 | 0.011118 | 0.009265 | **0.009265** | 801,218 | | 2014-12-08 to 2014-12-11 (4 rows) | 0.009265 | 0.009265 | 0.009265 | **0.009265** | 0 | The **lowest close is 0.009265**, and it is tied across at least five consecutive trading days. The four later days have zero volume, so the price did not move because no trades took place. Because of the tie, no single lowest record is definitive. 2014-12-05 is simply the earliest of the tied dates shown. ## Interpretation - **The extremes are not comparable across companies.** They come from different stocks, and the prices are almost certainly in different currencies (a Korean-listed stock versus an Australian-listed one). The roughly 32-million-fold gap between 300,000 and 0.009265 therefore says nothing about relative performance or value. - **The lowest values may be partly a data artifact.** The long decimals and zero-volume days suggest thin trading or adjusted historical prices. I did not verify this. - **Not checked:** whether any other company has a higher or lower close than those shown, since the query output gives only the top and bottom five, and whether the rankings hold after normalising by currency or by each stock's own history.
