Edit
**Most common values in the main categorical columns**
The categorical columns are nearly flat. No company or ticker dominates, because each is one stock's daily price history.
- **`company_name` and `stock_name`** have 152 distinct values each, and they map one-to-one (152 companies, 152 tickers). The most frequent values are ASM International (ASM.AS), BE Semiconductor (BESI.AS) and Soitec (SOI.PA), each with 3,475 rows, or 0.82% of the 422,729 rows. Next come Melexis NV (MELE.BR) with 3,473 rows, then Elmos Semiconductor (ELG.DE), Infineon (IFX.DE) and SÜSS MicroTec (SMHN.DE) with 3,448 each. All of these are about 0.82%.
- **Why the spread is so narrow:** the European listings have the longest histories, and most US listings sit at 3,415 rows (about 0.81%). Examples are NVIDIA, Applied Materials, KLA, Analog Devices and Marvell. Those US names share a first date of 2012-01-03, so the gap comes from trading calendars and listing coverage, not from any real skew. The rendered tables show the top 20 tickers sitting between 3,415 and 3,475 rows.
- **Metadata columns are constant.** `_batch_id` (`batch_d9e1fae7c9b5`), `_source_file` (the single `semi_conductor_se.csv`) and `_source_system` (`api`) each have one distinct value covering 100% of the rows. They carry no analytical information.
- **Date coverage:** every company's series starts on 2012-01-02 or 2012-01-03. Almost all end on 2025-08-01, and only Weebit Nano and BrainChip run to 2025-08-04.
One discrepancy: the dataset card estimated about 149 distinct companies, but the exact count is 152.
Because every company has a near-identical row count, row counts say nothing about a company's size or importance. Any "most common" ranking here reflects only how many trading days each stock was recorded.
